Workshop Overview:
Working with alumni often means walking a fine line between support and overextension. This interactive workshop is designed specifically for alumni professionals navigating challenging conversations with former clients and their families. We’ll explore effective strategies for handling alumni in emotional or mental health crises, managing long or overbearing calls, setting appropriate limits when family members become involved, and deciding when and how to pause outreach when alumni go unresponsive.
Through real-world scenarios, communication frameworks, and boundary-setting techniques, participants will walk away with confidence in maintaining both ethical and sustainable connections with alumni while protecting their own emotional bandwidth and professional role.
Workshop Objectives:
- Develop skills to effectively navigate emotionally charged conversations with alumni in crisis while maintaining professional boundaries and appropriate referrals.
- Implement strategies to manage and redirect overextending interactions, including long or difficult phone calls and unsolicited family involvement, with clarity and compassion.
- Establish a framework for disengagement and follow-up when alumni are non-responsive, ensuring ethical outreach practices while supporting staff well-being and role clarity.
