Recovery Capital Growth: Personal, Social, and Community Levels

Dr. David Best from Leeds Trinity University explores the concept of recovery capital, which refers to the internal and external resources individuals use to sustain long-term recovery. Recovery capital is built across three levels:

  1. Personal Recovery Capital – Includes an individual’s physical and mental health, coping skills, and motivation to change.
  2. Social Recovery Capital – Involves relationships and supportive networks, such as family, friends, and peer support groups.
  3. Community Recovery Capital – Focuses on societal factors like access to recovery-friendly resources, employment opportunities, and inclusive policies.

By strengthening recovery capital at all levels, individuals are better equipped to maintain meaningful, long-term recovery.
